Frequently asked questions

How do I know what type of therapy I need?

A therapist helps you identify the patterns you want to work on and choose an approach that fits what you’re experiencing. You don’t need to know the exact type of therapy you’d like before you start.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy may be a good fit when stress keeps showing up in the same areas of your life or when familiar patterns feel hard to change on your own. You can reach out before things feel overwhelming.

How do I choose the right therapist for me?

Look for someone who understands the concerns you want to address and whose approach feels comfortable to you. A good fit also includes feeling respected and understood during sessions.

What happens during your first therapy session?

Your therapist will ask about what brings you in and what you’d like to work on. You’ll also have time to ask questions and get a sense of whether the therapist feels like a good fit.

Do I need a mental health diagnosis to start therapy?

No. You don’t need to already have a diagnosis to reach out for therapy. You may start because you feel anxious, stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to change a recurring pattern. If you’re using insurance, a mental health diagnosis is typically required for insurance to cover therapy. Your therapist can discuss this with you as part of the assessment process.

How do I know if therapy is working?

You may notice that you respond differently to situations that once felt overwhelming. Progress might also show up through clearer decisions or less time spent stuck in familiar patterns.

Can therapy include my faith and personal values?

Yes! Your therapist works with the values and beliefs that are important to you. Reframe Therapy respects your faith and incorporates it into treatment when you want it included. You can share your preferences in your intake questionnaire or during your first appointment with your therapist.

How do I find a therapist in Utah who specializes in my concerns?

Start by looking for a therapist with experience in the areas you’d like support with. Reframe Therapy works with teens and adults across a wide range of mental health concerns. Some of the areas we commonly support include anxiety, perfectionism, scrupulosity, trauma, and relationship concerns. For a full list of concerns our therapists help with, visit each therapist’s bio or explore our services page.
